Detailed pharmacological investigations of p-N-(3, 4-methylene dioxy phenyl) benzoic acid revealed marked hypotensive action which was dose dependent and most marked in cats; it was absent in rats. Atropine could block this hypotensive action, thus suggesting cholinomimetic mechanism. Further studies indicated that the hypotension produced was central and possibly medullary in origin.
